aftermarket glock barrel

Aftermarket Glock Barrel - While Glocks are already known for their accuracy out of the box, wouldn't it be awesome to squeeze a little more accuracy out of your Glock?

You can find so many replacement parts for different Glock models that you can build your own non-Glock Glock. While we think that's cool, we'll spare you a full Glock parts review and just focus on one particular piece today - your barrel.

A good aftermarket barrel can provide better accuracy, nicer aesthetics, and can support aftermarket accessories like suppressors and muzzle brakes. You can upgrade the functionality of your Glock and easily customize its look by simply swapping out the barrel for an upgraded version.

We'll walk you through the basics of Glock barrel upgrades, from what you need to know to choose the right one for your gun to our top recommendations. You'll be able to shop for your new keg with confidence and know exactly what you're looking for.

Your first question may be, "So why do I need to upgrade my Glock's barrel when it's already so accurate?"

We hear you, but this is why we think you might want to consider upgrading your Glock barrel.

Stock Glock barrels use a polygonal rifling system that is actually more accurate than the average rifle system. It also allows some cheaper manufacturing processes to be used and these savings are passed on to the consumer.

That means - they have one drawback. They cannot use lead bullets. Glock does not recommend the use of lead bullets in its factory barrels, as lead can accumulate to dangerous levels during rifling. That means spending more for ammo that will play well with your Glock.

In addition to using cast bullets, they of course have other benefits of aftermarket barrels. First, many are threaded, meaning they are ready for suppressors, compensators, and muzzle brakes. We love our upgrades for our Glocks so this is a big draw for us.

Second, aftermarket or "accessory" barrels can be more accurate than factory barrels. Glocks are already more than adequate for defensive use or general shooting. However, for true target accuracy and to get the most out of the platform, something a little better than stock is needed.

Aftermarket Glock barrels are also great for enhancing the look of your gun. Let's face it, Glocks are definitely rugged and reliable, but they can leave something to be desired in the looks department.

If you want something a little prettier, a splash of paint or just a slightly different finish on the barrel is a great way to add something extra.

There are many things to think about when it comes to choosing a barrel for your Glock. After all, the point of customizing a gun is to take your personal preferences into account. Here are some ideas you might have.

First, and more importantly, there is caliber. Glocks are available in many calibers and it is important to get a barrel that matches the caliber of your gun.

Now, while this is obvious, somewhat less obvious is the fact that some Glocks can easily be converted to different calibers just by changing the barrel and magazines. This is most often done so that the shooter can take advantage of lighter and cheaper ammunition.

If you don't want to change your caliber, make sure you buy the correct barrel for your current caliber.

Generally, you'll want to get a barrel that matches the factory length of your gun, but there are extended and bolt-on barrels that are slightly longer for various reasons.

Threaded barrels are longer to accommodate the threads and still allow your muzzle device to extend beyond the breech. Obviously, having a suppressor in the way of your slide won't do you any good, so a slightly longer barrel will take care of that problem.

Other barrels, like some sixteen-inch offerings, may look a little silly, but are actually intended to prevent your Glock from being converted to an SBR when using certain conversion kits.

That's right - there are conversion kits that turn your Glock into a rifle or carbine. Generally, to avoid a tax stamp, you should either have no stock in the transfer or a barrel larger than sixteen inches. Be sure to check local, state, and federal laws to make sure your upgraded Glock is still on the right side of the line.

If you plan to run a suppressor, compensator, or muzzle, you will need to get a threaded barrel. If you only use the tip device occasionally, you'll also need a thread protector to keep your threads from getting stuck.

Now you may not care, so a non-threaded barrel may be enough. These models are slightly cheaper and do not require the same level of protection to prevent thread damage.

However, if you think there's even a remote chance you'll get a muffler or assembly one day, spend the extra $15 and get a threaded model to start with and save yourself the $100+ you'd have to spend on a new one barrel later.

The factory finish on Glock barrels is called Tennifer and is widely known to be very tough and corrosion resistant. A wide variety of aftermarket finishes are also available, from titanium nitride to stainless steel.

You can also Cerakote your barrel in literally every color of the rainbow, so you have your own options. Many of these options are available directly from the manufacturers, so you don't even have to pay for an actual custom fit.

Now that you're an expert on what to look for in aftermarket Glock barrels, we're here to tell you which ones we recommend and why. These options are our personal favorites and we think one of them will be the perfect choice especially for you and your Glock.

Lone Wolf Distributors is probably the most popular manufacturer of Glock parts. They are probably the only company that makes every part you will need to build a Glock without using real Glock parts.

However, Glock's barrel offerings go far beyond simply replacing a factory-style barrel. Most of their barrels are threaded, giving you options for suppressors and the like. They also have standard spiral rifling which works well with lead bullets and doesn't cause problems there.

You'll lose a bit of accuracy if you just swap out the factory barrel for one of Lone Wolf's stock spiral barrels, but you probably won't notice unless you're a very talented shooter.

If that's a problem, you can always get primers that will be more accurate than the factory ones you're replacing.

Finally, you can get conversion kits for many Glock models that will allow .40 S&W Glocks to shoot 9mm or 10mm to shoot .45 ACP, or even full slide replacements that will allow you to use .22 LR. This gives you more flexibility and in many cases allows you to practice with a smaller (and cheaper) charge than what you normally carry.

Their barrels are what really shine, albeit often literally. ZEV produces barrels in a variety of colors and finishes, including gold and rainbow nitride. You can really comment on the spectrum! If you want to stock your pistol, ZEV barrels are a good place to start.

And the barrels are not only beautiful - they also perform extremely well. Manufactures pre-hardened barrels that are fully hardened before machining. This gives you a stronger rifle that lasts longer.

The barrels are also even smoother for a silkier duty cycle, and the finish (even the pretty shiny ones) is actually harder and more corrosion resistant than the stock finish on factory Glock barrels. Best of all, they are true drop barrels, so no manual or custom arming is required.
